Uploading Text Files

Table sets can be created directly in the app. However, this can be time consuming if the tables have lots of entries, or there are many links between them. Text files can be created and uploaded to the app in three ways:

Synchronise via iTunes

  1. Run iTunes on your Mac/PC.
  2. Ensure the device is connected (either via a USB cable or WiFi).
  3. Click on the device in the “Devices” section of the sidebar.
  4. Click on the “Apps” tab at the top.
  5. Under “File Sharing” (you may have to scroll down) select the “Random Tables” app.
  6. In the “RTQ Documents” box on the right hand side, click “Add…”, navigate to where you stored the text file, and select it. Click on “Open”.
  7. Sync your device with iTunes.

Please note that the text file is deleted after synchronisation, so make sure you have saved a copy.

Open in Mail

  1. Email the text file to a mail account that has been enabled on your device.
  2. Open the email.
  3. Display the attachment.
  4. Tap the “Share” button on the top right corner (the box with the arrow coming out of it).
  5. Tap the “Open in…” button to display a list of apps that can accept text files.
  6. Tap the “RTQ” icon.
  7. The RTQ app will open. The new table set will be displayed in the list – but note that it may not show up if you are filtering the list by categories.

Open in Dropbox

Dropbox is used as an example here – these instructions should work with similar services.

  1. Copy the text file to a Dropbox folder.
  2. Open Dropbox and display the text file.
  3. Tap the “Share” button.
  4. Tap the “Open in…” button to display a list of apps that can accept text files.
  5. Tap the “RTQ” icon.
  6. The RTQ app will open.
